Interacts positively with upper management. Responsible for application level service delivery such as mail, database, DNS, backups or customer facing application. Performs hardware installations and guides sys admins through tasks. Performs or assists with installation and configuration of applications, storage, network, network services (dns, ntp, smtp, vips, cluster interconnects), installation and operation of complex software and hardware systems such as Storage Systems, Mail, Directory Services, Oracle, Veritas, SQL Server, Weblogic, etc.. Diagnose and correct OS and application configuration problems. Performs Sys Admin duties during crises or periods of insufficient resources. Developed a few areas of specialization with services (e.g. Oracle, Veritas, J2EE, etc), Should be familiar with IT or other process standards (.e.g ITIL, ISO, etc.) A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts. Operational support. Can manage their own work without frequent guidance or assistance. Capable of leading small groups. Works under general direction from senior management. Documented procedures, tasks and projects so that a Sys admin could follow clearly. Uses tools to outline and plan, such as Topology Outlines, Presentation Software, Project Planning Software. Basic Project Planning skills - outlining, setting dates and deliverables.
